The Scot

Amanda and I decided we would have a nice lunch at a nice tonkatsu restaurant. We noticed when we entered the restaurant that were two Caucasian foreigners sitting at a table, near us. Now generally, we tend to tense up when other foreigners are around, especially if they're European, because the trend seems to be that most Europeans are pretty hostile towards us because we're Christian and of our job here.

Of course since they were speaking English, our ears perked up and listened to every piece of the conversation we could hehe. They were two men; their voices carried clearly to where we sat hehe. One man, whom we will call The Scot, was chatting a lot with the other man whose name is Andre. The Scot talked about how he had read a book about eternal darkness and how he did not want to go spend his after life in an eternal darkness. Now, that's really interesting, because I never thought of heaven and hell in those terms - "the after life". He talked about sin, and Andre did not know what sin was, so The Scot just defined it as "the bad things we do". The Scot talked about Buddhism and how Buddhists believe in achieving enlightenment but how that is almost impossible to do because it is through good works. He talked about how he learned of this man who died in our place so that we don't have to pay the consequences of our sin. And man, The Scot just blew it out of the water. He was so good, so natural, so cool!

It was definitely encouraging to just sit there and enjoy a good meal while listening to an awesome conversation all about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It's like the second Big Jumpstart of encouragement to this summer for me. The first was Passion, the event. And now this. It's like, God is showing me that his people ARE out there, and they are doing His work. Now if all the people at the Passion event were doing what The Scot was doing...let that be our prayer!

  1. I bet other Christians are saying the same thing about you when you go out to share and they over hear you. God's people ARE out there.
